UN Sustainable Development Goal 12  

The United Nations created seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to serve as a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.” Goal twelve encourages responsible consumption and protection. Something all companies and people should aim for.

Research presented by the United Nations shows that in 2019, people generated nearly 7.3 kilograms each of electronic or e-waste. Unfortunately, only 1.7 kilograms of this is recycled. It further highlights that in the years 2000 to 2017, one million plastic drinking bottles were bought every minute. And five trillion single-use plastic bags are thrown away every year. 

How can your company recycle and be more sustainable?   

Companies have many ways they can become more sustainable by supporting recycling efforts.

There is no reason for corporate e-waste to end up in landfills. Send items such as laptops, printers, computer screens, cell phones and tablets to a recycling company that specialises in e-waste. Give laptops that are not up to corporate standards but still usable to charitable organisations that recondition them. They often use these laptops to teach basic computer skills.

Companies use a lot of paper in the office and much of that can be recycled. Just place paper recycling boxes next to each printer in a corporate office. Paper recycling companies pay a fee for quality paper and this fee can either be used to support further sustainability efforts or given to a charity.  

Unwanted furniture, set aside during an office relocation, can be given to a charitable organisation that repair and re-use. Some even upcycle such items for a different purpose. Only then should recycling and disposal be considered. 

Ecoboxes continue sustainability efforts 

Business relocation services often require the transport of sensitive documentation. 

As part of our contribution to sustainability, Master Office Projects uses ecoboxes to move sensitive documentation. 

Ecoboxes are sturdy plastic moving boxes that are sealable and stackable. Once the move is completed, the ecoboxes are collected, cleaned and re-used. They can be fully recycled at the end of their life cycle.
